What we answer, and how quickly
- Corrections — answered first and fixed as soon as we can verify them. A page that has been materially corrected says so rather than being quietly edited.
- Book suggestions — genuinely welcome, particularly for the recipient and occasion guides, where a good match we have missed is worth more than another list.
- Questions about how the site works — the method, the funding and the editorial rules are all published, and if any of them is unclear that is a problem with the page rather than with the question.
- Publisher and PR enquiries — we do not accept review copies, paid placement or sponsored posts, so those emails will not go anywhere. That is not a negotiating position.
You can also email directly: info@marginandmuse.com. There is no phone number, because there is no office and a number nobody answers is worse than none.
What happens to your message
It goes to one inbox, read by the person who wrote the page you are writing about. There is no ticketing system, no support tier and no automated reply, which means a real answer takes a little longer and is worth more when it arrives.
Corrections are dealt with first because they are the only messages where the delay costs somebody something. If you tell us a page count is wrong or a book is out of print in the format we suggested, we check it against the catalog and fix it, and the page carries a note if the change was material. That is set out formally in the editorial policy, and it is the part of this site we would most like people to use.
One thing worth saying plainly: we cannot tell you what to buy for a specific person by email, however much we would enjoy the question. The honest answer is always the same two questions — how much do they read and what did they last finish — and the how-to-choose guide does more with those than a reply could. If it does not, that is a gap in the guide and we would like to hear about it.
Before you write
Three things that are already answered, in case one of them is what you came for. We have not read every book on this site and we say so on every list — the method explains what we check instead. There are no prices anywhere here because there is no live price feed, so every buy control links the current listing rather than printing a number that goes stale. And nothing on this site can be bought: no publisher has paid for a place on a list and none will, which the disclosure page covers in full.
