Hard science fiction as a category
Project Hail Mary is often shelved as hard science fiction, but much of that genre is drier than it is: long on physics, short on jokes and heart. Readers who loved Ryland and Rocky usually want the warmth as much as the science. The picks on this page keep both, or say plainly when they don't.
